Cacilhas Museological Center - Almada - Facilities
This project was drawn up for the north bank of the Tagus River, near Largo Alfredo Diniz in Cacilhas, between Av. Aliança Povo M.F.A. and the Tagus River, on the site of the former H. Parry & Son docks. At the site of the intervention are currently located the frigate D. Fernando e Glória and the submarine Barracuda, which should integrate with the proposed building the so-called “Cacilhas Museological Center”.
The intervention site is therefore a riverside area located east of the city of Almada, next to the Tagus River estuary. This space presents privileged views over Lisbon and an extraordinary potential that comes from its intimate relationship with water.
The proposed building for the Cacilhas Museum Center has a classical design. The option for a classical design is due, above all, to the need for the building not to take away the importance of the main elements in presence, namely the frigate and the submarine.
It is intended that the building, in addition to its function as an interpretative center, will be an antechamber to the permanent exhibition of the two historic ships, and that it will contribute to the dynamization of this center as a support for the development of museological and cultural activities in Almada.
